Day 1: Nourlangie Rock, Yellow Water Cruise
Depart Darwin and travel into World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. Visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre and gain an insight into the cultural and historical significance the park holds. Enjoy a guided cruise on Yellow Water, Kakadu's most famous wetland area. Watch for the powerful saltwater crocodiles, diverse birdlife and beautiful waterlilies. After lunch travel to Nourlangie art sites to see the ancient galleries. The unique x-ray style works record the traditional cultures, changes and evolution of the land and people over the last 40,000 years. Day 2: Ubirr, East Alligator River Cruise
Travel to Ubirr to see superbly preserved Aboriginal rock art before joining an Aboriginal guide for a cruise on the East Alligator River. Learn of the flora, fauna, Aboriginal mythology and history of the region, and by special permission, take a short walk into Arnhem Land. Visit the Bowali Visitor Centre and stop at Window on the Wetlands for a glass of wine while watching the changing light of day over the wetlands. (L)
